Belles of Blue – Album Release Spotlight

On September 18th, 2026 – the Belles of Blue released their new album titled ‘Old Pine Box’ that includes their #1 hit “Hebrew Children” on the Bluegrass Today Gospel Chart back in August 2026.  Belles of Blue is a band from Kentucky and led by sisters Nancy Decker and Dollie Slayton. The album is full of originals written by Nancy Decker along with a few co-written by Dollie Slayton and/or Daisy Smith. ‘Old Pine Box’ songs are written with messages that are based on strong faith and drawn from childhood experiences with the Singing Murdy Family band.

Listening to songs that make you think of the Cross, emotions during a loss, bouncing back, and/or sharing the love of Jesus, only gets better each time you listen to it.  The lyrics are strongly backed with rich-family harmonies and traditional bluegrass instrumentation. This album has an excellent arrangement and full of heart/soul.

Here is my take on the messages and songs of Belles of Blue album ‘Old Pine Box’.  Obviously, everyone views and interrupts words differently, but I challenge you to listen to the album and see what your thoughts are.

Black Heart – starting off talking about a black heart, you hear a story that talks about how selling yourself to the devil and spreading lies can cause one to pay the price. It creates a bunch of difficulties you have to live with. For the loved ones, it makes it hard for them to love those with a black heart.

Ghost Town – getting in a car, driving to a place that God has led you to. Why? Landing in a place that you are unsure of and figuring out there is nowhere to turn around. To find answers in life or situations that you are going through, God won’t always give the answer right away, but He will guide you in the direction.

Three Nails and A Cross – listening to this song about the love Jesus has for us, many will learn that it may not be a fairytale but that Jesus gave a lot for us on the cross and that we are not alone – our Lord is with us at all times, any place – any time.

Old Pine Box (Title Track) – this is definitely in the realm of bluegrass music. It contains great harmony sound and the feeling of some kind of crime/killing happening. The song gives the point of view from the victim, the one in the pine box and haunting the one that committed the crime.

Hebrew Children – this is an ultimate bluegrass gospel song. Straight forward and biblical message of the three Hebrew Children being captured, detained by the King and then the divine protection of God (the fourth).

When You Think of The Cross – beautiful song written by Dollie Slayton & Daisy Smith that is kinda stripped down and slower tempo. Shines the light on what the cross can be about to some but it makes you think of what your thoughts are about the cross ‘when you think of the cross’. What are your thoughts?

Moving On – taking that step of moving on when realizing you are in a place that you don’t belong and need to move on to better your life.

A Different Shade of Blue – have you ever had that feeling of sadness after someone you loved left you, well, this song is about that period and will have you singing along in no time along with knowing that you are not alone.

No One Goes to Church Here, Anymore – a song that touches on a typical situation now-a-days when you return to the small churches in the country. A church once full of praise, baptism, singing and fellowship is now empty.

High Tide – quick temp song that gets you through that difficult part of a heartache.

This Is Love – finding that special deep love after a heartbreak. A love worth waiting for.

When Mama Prays – a powerful song about our moms. Mom’s are our biggest Guardian Angels – both when they are physically with us and not. The song describes how mom would call on Angels when her children needed prayers.

This album, full of original songs, is definitely one that you will enjoy and even more each time after. It shares biblical messages, personal testimonies along with sharing those old-fashioned storytelling traditions that many love. The album that showcases the Belles of Blue distinctive blend of traditional bluegrass, gospel, family harmony, and story-driven songwriting is available NOW and you can download it wherever you stream your music.  You can also check out their website at bellesofblue.com to get their album and learn much more about the Belles of Blue that are led by sisters Nancy Decker and Dollie Slayton.
