My Album Spotlight for the next four weeks is Nu-Blu’s newly released album, “Where You’ve Been”. Their new album may have been released at the end of August (2024), but they have been putting out great music since September of 2003. “Where You’ve Been” is such a wonderful album that paints a picture of how life can be different in all aspects of the past, present and future. Every time I listen to the album, I can see how many fans will be able to relate to the song, whether it is from a forgotten memory, heartbreak or an unwanted situation.
Below is a quick summary of my opinion of each son on “Where You’ve Been” from Nu-Blu. To learn more about the album and songs, keep your eye out for “Stories Behind The Songs” with myself and Nu-Blu, Carolyn and Daniel Routh, on Michelle Lee On Air.
Where You’ve Been – Hopefully this song will give you that sense of pride like it did for me. It is a great reminder of how the path you take can truly mold you into what you are today. This song has a lovely tone between both voice and instrument that creates the desire of wanting to listen to it more.
Horse Thieves and Moonshiners – Have you ever sat at a campfire and compared yourself to a type of person from the past? This song will take you to that place and create a fun sound while you think of what it could be like back then or how they could have helped mold you into what you are now.
Jesus Loves You (featuring Jody McBrayer) – I have always believed that you can “have church” anywhere and at any time. This song made me think about that again, it is an awesome song that demonstrates the kind of love that Jesus has for you, whether there is a church or not. The voices of Carolyn and Jody were beautifully blended along with the harmony of Daniel throughout the song.
Time (Still On Your Side) – This great song definitely compliments the album title. Are you wanting to make a change from choices you have possibly made, well, you will always have the TIME to make that change! Don’t skip over this song, it is a great reminder of our precious friend, Time.
It’s Too Late – Song makes me think of those Hallmark Movies many of us adore. You will have to listen to find out if it has the popular love ending like the movies. Many of us are able to relate to this type of song. As many bluegrass fans love the songs that deal with relationships, this is definitely one you will want to listen to!
When It Rains She Pours – We all deal with situations in our lives differently and this song nails a few of them that we all can relate to. Whether Bourbon is your choice of healing, pour a drink and enjoy this song.
Whirlwind – fun and energetic instrumental – make sure to pick along! If you’re not a “picker” than make sure you are ready to yell and dance along to how life can take you through a roll-a-coaster.
Nobody’s Business But the Moon – wow… what an impactful song! There are events that happen to females that unfortunately may leave her in an unforgettable predicament. This is an awesome example of a woman standing up for herself. When only the moon has witnessed the happenings, it is nobody’s business!
Trains (featuring Jim Peterik) – This song takes those, once vital, trains from the past into a beautiful journey of how a train can be a lot like dreams. They both can take you to almost anywhere you wish to visit.
The Will (featuring Sharon White & Ricky Skaggs) – This song is one of my favorites! It shows how a will can be so much more than how much money someone is passing on, what property a child will get, who gets momma’s jewelry or etc. Make sure to give a listen to this masterful song of family tradition and love.
That’s Just Life – fantastic song to finish up the album with! Our time here on earth is so short, let’s learn and make the most out of our time! Love ourselves, one anther and have FUN!
If you are an album lover, this is an album you will want to add to your collection. The songs will resonate in one way or another with many fans.
